We study not merely karate, but karate-do. "DO" is the Japanese term for "way of life". The serious student of karate-do will find karate becoming a way of life. Karate-do cultivates the virtues of humility, honesty, concern for others, patience and strength. It develops the mind and strengthens the body and teaches us to concentrate on spiritual values instead of momentary pleasures, or material possessions. Karate is endless. A student may have fine technique, but if the student’s mind has not developed along the lines suggested by the Dojo Kun, then the student does not understand karate-do. As we mature and grow older, experience will lead us to comprehend a deeper meaning and give us a greater understanding of the Dojo Kun. "Karate" translates to "empty hands" and implies weaponless self-defence. "Do" means "way of life". Thus karate-do means to practice the art of karate as a way of life. "Ryu" means simply, "style". "Goju" translates literally to "hard/soft" and refers to a specific ryu of karate-do founded in Okinawa by CHOJUN MIYAGI. This section of our web site has been dedicated to the study of Karate and Goju Ryu. It has been broken down into three sub sections, each containing thier own table of contents and navigation. Cross linking is done by way of hyperlinks, and these may cross the boundaries of each section.
